Top LeT Terrorist ‘Sulaiman Shah Musa’ Killed in J&K’s Budgam Encounter During Operation Korag
Sulaiman Shah Musa Killed in J&K: It was reported by the authorities that a senior member of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), who was wanted in connection with a number of attacks, was killed in an encounter with security forces in the Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday.
The security authorities identified the terrorist as Mohammad Asif, who is also known as 'Hashim Moosa'.
He was wanted because it was alleged that he had carried out attacks on both sides of the Pir Panjal range over a number of years; earlier this month, it was reported that he had escaped a security operation in the Yousmarg hills.

Sulaiman Shah Musa Killed in J&K: Terrorist Knocked Down During Operation Korag
Musa, the most-wanted terrorist, was killed during Operation Korag, a joint anti-militancy effort by the Indian Army’s Chinar Corps, J&K Police, and CRPF in the Korag area near Yousmarg.
The Army said troops noticed suspicious movement and challenged the suspected terrorists. The militants fired back, leading to a gunfight that resulted in the death of one terrorist.
Moosa was reportedly killed in the remote forest area of Dudhpathri during the operation.
Encounter in Jammu and Kashmir | Body Found During Search in Palmaidan, War-Like Stores Recovered
Sulaiman Shah Musa killed in J&K: The Corps later confirmed that his body was found during a search early in the morning in the General Area Palmaidan. Security forces also found war-like stores at the site.
The recovered body was identified as Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist Mohammad Asif, also known as Moosa was reportedly wanted for allegedly taking part in a series of attacks on security forces in the Pir Panjal region.
Security officials said his group was linked to attacks in Poonch and other parts of Jammu and Kashmir that killed several Army and security personnel between 2021 and 2024.
Moosa’s Close Ally Yasir Also Killed In September 5 Encounter
Sulaiman Shah Musa killed in J&K: Before Moosa, his close confidante Yasir was also killed in an encounter on September 5, 2026, in a joint operation in the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir's Budgam district.
According to officials, Yasir was a Pakistani national who had connections with the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
During Operation Ashdar in the Ashdar Gali area, security forces acted on intelligence about suspected terrorists moving through the forested Pir Panjal belt. The Army, J&K Police, and CRPF carried out the joint operation.
Officials said Yasir was first detected in Jammu and Kashmir in 2024 and was part of a LeT group suspected of several attacks in the Union Territory.
Officials said Yasir was among the terrorists involved in the May 4, 2024, ambush on an Indian Air Force convoy near Shahsitar in Poonch’s Surankote area.
The attack took place as the personnel were heading back to their base at Sanai Top. One IAF member was killed, and four others were injured.
Officials also said Yasir was involved in the October 20, 2024, attack at Gagangir in Sonamarg, which left seven people dead. The victims included non-local labourers and a local doctor.
Four days later, on October 24, terrorists ambushed an Army vehicle in the Bota Pathri area near Gulmarg, killing five people—three soldiers and two civilian porters. Officials have also linked Yasir to the group behind that attack.
Identifying Yasir may help security agencies link a Pakistani terrorist network in the Pir Panjal belt to attacks in both Jammu and Kashmir divisions over the past two years.
The Army’s Srinagar-based Chinar Corps said troops noticed suspicious movement during the search in the Ashdar Gali forests and confronted the suspected terrorists, who opened fire. Security forces fired back and killed one terrorist.
An AK-series rifle and other military equipment were found at the site. Officials said security forces continued searching the area on Saturday after reports that another terrorist, or possibly more, could be hiding in the dense forests.
Budgam Encounter: Forces Hunted Terrorists Amid Rough Terrain
The rough terrain and thick forest have made the operation difficult. The operation followed an exchange of fire in the Ashdar Gali forests on Thursday.
This area is above the Yusmarg tourist resort and is part of the Pir Panjal belt, which connects Budgam in the Kashmir Valley with Poonch in the Jammu region.
The Budgam gunfight is the second confirmed clash between security forces and terrorists in the Kashmir Valley this year.
The last confirmed encounter was in Shopian on July 8, when LeT terrorist Zakir Ahmad Ganai was killed.
