Prateek Yadav dies at 38: Prateek Yadav, the younger son of the late Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav and half-brother of SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, passed away in Lucknow on Wednesday, according to sources. At 38, he was married to BJP leader Aparna Yadav.

Sources said Prateek was taken to Lucknow’s Civil Hospital around 6 am on Wednesday for treatment, but doctors pronounced him dead at the hospital.

Brief About Prateek Yadav

Prateek Yadav came from a well-known political family but mostly stayed out of active politics.

He studied at the University of Leeds in the UK and worked in real estate and the fitness industry.

Prateek Yadav ran a gym called ‘The Fitness Planet’ in Lucknow and was active in the fitness industry.

He was also involved in animal welfare through an organisation called ‘Jeev Ashray’, which helps stray dogs.

Aparna Yadav’s Husband Death: Divorce Issue with Wife Aparna Yadav

A few months ago, after reports of a dispute with Aparna Yadav, Prateek shared family holiday photos on social media.

His wife, Aparna Yadav, is the vice-chairperson of the Uttar Pradesh Women’s Commission and is associated with the BJP.

Prateek Called Wife ‘Family Destroyer’

Samajwadi Party family news: In January, Prateek Yadav posted twice on his verified Instagram account, iamprateekyadav, calling his wife, Aparna, a "family destroyer" and accusing her of being self-centred and seeking fame.

Aparna Yadav, a BJP leader, is now the vice chairperson of the Uttar Pradesh State Commission for Women.

The reason for Prateek Yadav's anger was not clear, and neither the SP nor the BJP responded to the situation at the time.

Prateek and Aparna Yadav married in 2011 and have a daughter. Aparna Yadav joined the BJP in March 2022 and campaigned for the party.

She became vice chairperson of the state's women's commission in September 2024.

Aparna Yadav ran in the 2017 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections as an SP candidate from the Cantt seat in Lucknow, but lost to Congress candidate Rita Bahuguna Joshi.

In one of his Instagram posts, Prateek had mentioned "I am going to divorce this selfish woman as soon as possible. She ruined my family ties… All she wants to become is famous and influential."

He also said his mental health had suffered because of her. "Right now, I have a very bad mental health condition, and she doesn't bother. Because it's only herself she bothers about. He even felt unfortunate to marry such a bad woman. 

From the same account, Prateek Yadav also wrote, "Broke my relationship with my mother, broke my relationship with my father, broke my relationship with my brother. She only wants to be famous."

"Biggest liar that I have seen in my life (I swear to my child). Biggest self-interested person I have ever seen," the post also said.

Aparna and Prateek Yadav Move Past Divorce Rumors, Share Happy Moments

The divorce-related posts were later deleted, and the couple went on to share happy moments together.

Later, their relationship seemed to get better, as they looked happy together in several photos on social media. The posts where Prateek Yadav mentioned divorce were also removed.

When asked if she would file a complaint against her husband with the Women's Commission about her divorce case, Dr Babita Singh Chauhan, the chairperson, said at the time, “This is her family matter and is a very private affair.”

Dr Babita said Aparna has not contacted the commission about this and can make her own decisions.

CM Yogi Adityanath expressed deep sorrow over the sudden passing of Shri Prateek Yadav Ji, son of the late Mulayam Singh Yadav and husband of Smt. Aparna Yadav. He offered condolences and prayed for the family's strength.

Postmortem Conducted at KGMU

The postmortem is being conducted at KGMU under tight security. Sources said it will take place at the KGMU mortuary under the supervision of the Chief Medical Officer.

Officials said Dr Mousami Singh will lead the autopsy, with Dr Anoop Kumar Raipuria and Dr Fatima Harsha also on the medical panel.

A team of three KGMU doctors, including forensic experts, will carry out the examination.

Chest X-Ray To Be Done Before Postmortem

Sources said a chest X-ray will be done before the postmortem begins. The examination will start once the panchnama documents are received.

Officials said the postmortem will be video graphed, and the entire procedure will be recorded for documentation.

Meanwhile, Aman Bisht, Aparna Yadav’s brother, arrived at the postmortem house with other family members. Security is tight at the site, with police stationed around the mortuary.
