CJI Surya Kant Latest News: The controversy began with a comment by CJI Surya Kant during a Supreme Court hearing in mid-May, before a bench that included Justice Joymalya Bagchi.
Advocate Sanjay Dubey was seeking contempt proceedings over the alleged delay by the Delhi High Court in following Supreme Court guidelines on the designation of Senior Advocates.
During the hearing, CJI Kant strongly criticised what he saw as growing and unnecessary attacks on the judiciary and the legal system.
The Chief Justice said some unemployed young people, whom he called "cockroaches," were entering the media, social media, or activism and targeting institutions.
He also called them "parasites of society" and raised concerns about fake law degrees, suggesting the CBI should check these qualifications.

CJI Surya Kant Cockroach Remark: Abhijeet Dipke, the party's strategist, launched the satirical Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), a play on the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party's name.
The party's Instagram following reportedly surpassed that of the BJP within days and later became a broader youth protest movement.
Two days after the remarks drew widespread attention, CJI Surya Kant clarified that some media outlets had misquoted him.
He said his criticism was only aimed at people who entered jobs like law with fake or bogus degrees.
CJP Accused of Misusing CJI Remarks as Thousands March to Parliament
The CJP was accused of using the CJI's courtroom remarks for commercial purposes on social media.
When the matter was brought up for urgent hearing on May 25, a bench led by CJI Surya Kant, with Justices Joymalya Bagchi and Vipul Pancholi, declined to expedite the case.
The bench said there was no grave urgency and advised counsel not to treat the matter too emotionally.
Parliament march: Since then, the CJP has expanded its public presence. On Monday, thousands of supporters tried to march to Parliament.
