PM Modi Indonesia Visit: Prime Minister Narendra Modi was given a ceremonial welcome upon his arrival in Jakarta, Indonesia, on Tuesday. This is the first leg of his three-nation visit.

Modi arrived in Indonesia on Monday, where he was greeted with an escort from an Indonesian Air Force fighter jet and a personal reception by the country's President at the airport.

Military fighter jets accompanied the Prime Minister's aircraft as it entered Indonesian airspace.

PM Modi Grand Welcome in Jakarta: Upon landing, PM Modi was formally welcomed by President Prabowo Subianto and welcomed with a traditional cultural dance performance.

This visit is at the personal invitation of President Prabowo, marking Modi's fourth trip to the nation.

India Indonesia Defence Talks: Following the grand welcome, the Prime Minister will meet with President Prabowo to discuss various topics, including bilateral relations, defense, and food security.

India and Indonesia Poised for Strategic Cooperation on Health, Defense, and Technology

PM Modi Indonesia Latest News: Before the visit, India's ambassador to Indonesia, Sandeep Chakravorty, informed reporters that discussions will focus on memorandums of understanding in areas such as health, space, pharmaceuticals, and food security.

He stated, as quoted by news agency Reuters, that while some agreements are in the process, others will be finalized or delayed, there will still be significant outcomes from the visit.

PM Modi Indonesia Visit: New Delhi and Jakarta are also aiming to finalize agreements on BrahMos, a joint venture missile manufacturer between India and Russia, as well as initiatives related to maritime awareness and combating piracy.

PM Modi Indonesia Latest Update: The Prime Minister outlined that this visit to Indonesia is aligned with India's 'neighbourhood first' policy and the MAHASAGAR framework, which aims for mutual and holistic advancement for security across regions.

PM Modi Indonesia Visit: In a departure statement, the Prime Minister noted that his visits to Indonesia and Australia, located in the Eastern and Southern Indian Ocean respectively, followed by New Zealand, will further support India's Act East Policy, MAHASAGAR Vision, and its commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific.

PM Modi Three-Nation Tour: The Prime Minister's three-nation visit starts with Indonesia from July 6 to 8, followed by Australia from July 8 to 10, and concludes in New Zealand from July 10 to 11.

Strengthening Defence and Economic Cooperation in Focus

PM Modi Indonesia Visit: Discussions between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Prabowo Subianto are anticipated to push the BrahMos missile agreement closer to completion.

India's Ambassador to Indonesia, Sandeep Chakravorty, had earlier mentioned that the negotiations are at a very advanced stage.

Economic collaboration will also be a key area of focus.

The total trade between the two nations currently amounts to $28.15 billion, and cooperation in the area of critical minerals is expected to be a major highlight.

Indonesia, which possesses approximately 21 percent of the world's nickel reserves, is becoming an increasingly significant partner for India.

Prime Minister Modi highlighted that the India-Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, which was established in 2018, has brought benefits to the people of both countries.

He expressed optimism that the meetings with President Prabowo will further enhance cooperation in various fields.

India Indonesia Bilateral Talks: During the visit, the two leaders are expected to have bilateral meetings and also visit the historic Prambanan Temple in Yogyakarta.

This visit is intended to showcase the shared cultural and civilisational ties between India and Indonesia.

India and Indonesia have had close cultural and commercial ties for over two thousand years.
Hinduism, Buddhism, and later Islam spread from the Indian coast to Indonesia.Stories from the great epics of Ramayana and Mahabharata have inspired Indonesian folk art and dramas.
Shared cultural heritage, colonial history, and similar post-independence goals like political sovereignty, economic self-reliance, and independent foreign policy form the foundation of their relationship.
Both nations have fought against colonial rule and share similar values such as democratic traditions, pluralistic cultures, and progressive leadership.
President Sukarno of Indonesia was honored as the Guest of Honour during India's first Republic Day in 1950.
After gaining independence, both India and Indonesia became leading advocates for the freedom of Asian and African nations.
This spirit led to the historic Bandung Conference in 1955 and the later formation of the Non-Aligned Movement in 1961.
Since India introduced its 'Look East Policy' in 1991 and upgraded it to 'Act East' in 2014, the bilateral relationship has seen rapid growth in political, security, defense, commercial, and cultural areas.

When Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto Visited India as Chief Guest for Republic Day 2025

At the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto visited India from January 23–26, 2025, serving as Chief Guest for India’s 76th Republic Day.

Marking his first visit as President and the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations, the trip underscored their deep historical ties and Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

The leaders built upon momentum from their 2024 meetings in Rio de Janeiro and previous cooperation agreements established in 2018.

This visit further strengthened bilateral collaboration, particularly in defense and maritime security, reinforcing the long-standing, robust friendship between India and Indonesia as they advance their shared vision for the Indo-Pacific.

Prime Minister Modi attended the 17th G20 Leaders' Summit in November 2022 and the 20th ASEAN-India Summit and East Asia Summit in September 2023.

This was followed by a visit to India by former President Joko Widodo to attend the G20 Leaders' Summit in September 2023.
